It's OK to Let It Burn..

So I was catching up on some emails and I stumbled on a concept that I thought was super helpful and of course I wanted to share. I'm a teacher at heart so I don't like gatekeeping- I love sharing what I know because I love helping people.

There is this book, I can't recommend it yet, because I haven't bought it and I don't think you necessarily have to buy the book to practice what it discusses.

It’s basically about a type of therapeutic practice: physically burning the responses to deep seated questions that force deeply vulnerable answers.

It's about answering a variety of questions that force you to be really honest and vulnerable with yourself. The questions are written down, and you answer in writing. It forces you to sit and think about your answers (many times to questions you never thought about), knowing that NO ONE ELSE will ever see them.

Why?

Because you are BURNING what you've written down. That's right! No one will ever see them.

Although many people do this alone, there’s also many that do it in a group setting. The answers are still private. Some people do a form of this depending on the type of therapy they participate in. It's an exercise that's a part of freeing themselves from certain struggles. It can even be privately ceremonial or part of a group ceremony.

Here's an example of the type of questions that are asked:

The ONE thing I regret in this world

The things I could be addicted to

Things that make me laugh

The last time I gave 100%

The first quality I look for in a person

As you can see the questions can cover a wide range of topics and vary from really deep to lighthearted. It's up to you on how honest and vulnerable you'll be with yourself, knowing that it only stays with you.

Of course you can do this mentally, you don't have to write anything down. But for some of us visual people, such as myself, writing it down is much more effective.

Soon as I come across the right list of questions, I could see myself trying this. I expect it to help me start freeing myself of any underlying issues I may have that I've been avoiding. You have to uncover stuff before you can address it, right?

So will you be trying this? And do you think it’ll hep you uncover and release some deep seated thoughts or issues?
